Dr. Karla Mugler welcomes two of our Scholarship Winners for 2025-2026, Sara Jane Ulrich (left), and Katelyn Fletcher (rt), while our 3rd winner Ava Sarah Winer, was unable to attend in person. Our annual Benefit was held on June 11 at the Sunset Ridge Country Club, where we introduced our 3 new Scholarship winners with the theme of "Lasting Friendship":  live music, a seated dinner, silent auction, raffle, wine pull, photo op area, signature cocktail, vendor table, and award presentation that featured our 3 winners. 

 

Sara Jane Ulrich is an Academic Scholarship recipient, and a graduate of Libertyville High School. She is the daughter of Erin and Brad Ulrich of Libertyville. At the University of Oklahoma, she has a 4.0 cumulative gpa and is majoring in Communication Sciences & Disorders. She seeks to eventually earn a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. A recipient of Dean’s List and President’s List honors in 2022, ‘23, and ‘24, Sara has been on the Executive Team of Best Buddies, from 2022-23, on the OU Relay for Life Education Committee, and a member of the OU Food Pantry Development Team.  Her volunteer experiences include working over the summer and school breaks at Keeping Families Covered Diaper Bank, wrapping & packaging diapers as well as distributing them. As Director of Service Hours for her sorority Delta Gamma, Sara recorded over 300 members’ service hours and helped organize and plan volunteer events. In 2024 as VP: Foundation for Delta Gamma, she organized and led volunteer opportunities, service events, and signature fundraisers including Anchor Splash and Serve It for Sight, a volleyball tournament, raising over $23,000.

 

Ava Sarah Winer, also an Academic Scholarship recipient, is a graduate of Glenbrook South High School. She is the daughter of Rachel and Richard Winer of Glenview. A student at Vanderbilt University, Ava is majoring in Human and Organizational Development as well as Economics; she also is earning a minor in Business. Ava has a 3.99 gpa at Vanderbilt where she is the Deputy Director and Co-Project Manager for Anchor Marketing, consulting for local businesses in Nashville. She is a member of the Recruitment team for Phi Chi Theta, a professional business fraternity. Ava also serves as Executive VP for the TAMID Group, where students gain hands-on business experience with a connection to Israel; she is on the Communications Committee for Hillel, gives tours to prospective students, is the PR Chair for the Vanderbilt Club Figure Skating team which trains and completes nationally. Recently she was initiated into Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Ava has raised over $12,000 through an organization she began at her high school – The Cookie Collective, which directs which community organizations receive their funds earned. While this organization was formed while she was in high school, Ava continues to serve the organization.

 

Katelyn Fletcher, a recipient of the Service Scholarship, is a graduate of Mundelein High School. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Kevin Fletcher of Mundelein. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Katelyn is majoring in Neurobiology and Psychology, where she maintains a 3.8 gpa. She participated in women's club soccer her first year of college, and currently is a member of Psi Chi, the national honor society for students majoring in psychology. Katelyn is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and has been serving as VP of Panhellenic at the University of Wisconsin. Every year Kappa Alpha Theta puts on a huge fashion show called Katwalk, to raise funds for CASA, the Court Appointed Special Advocates organization dedicated to helping children who struggle through the court system with custody battles or familial court appearances. The chapter raised over $15,000 for CASA, but the experience helped Katelyn realize how privileged she is, and the importance of service to the community.
